Profile

  • I am a native of Venezuela who was turning 20 years old when I committed an inexcusable crime while living in the State of Florida. I allowed myself to be convinced to participate in this terrible crime and I have regretted this moment of weakness every day since.

I was charged with a federal crime instead of a state crime and the resulting sentence was radically enhanced by prosecutors who secured a life sentence. This was my first time in trouble with the law.

Despite the ‘final’ nature of my sentence, I have spent all my years of incarceration demonstrating to myself and others that my participation in this crime was an anomaly rather than an indication of my true character. Believing firmly in my moral obligation to repent for my actions, I have structured my life in prison around only the determined pursuit of productive activities. These include both self-improvement initiatives (dozens of institution-run courses, Bible study, learning to paint in oils and how to invest in the financial markets) and community service (the creation and donation of many paintings to charitable organizations). I am committed to helping young people not make the same mistakes I did. See the document “Organizing the Guidance of our Youth”.

I am seeking friends who are passionate about advocating for criminal justice reform in the U.S. (See my article in the “Documents” section). I am also seeking friends who will support my efforts to successfully apply for a commutation of my sentence via Presidential clemency, or who can assist me in obtaining an international treaty transfer back to my country to be close to my family. See more at “My Story” in the “Documents” section.
