  • The most common type of sex offense against a child is that of a father molesting his child. Why is this? Does anyone have an idea? Aren't fathers supposed to protect their children? This is what I was taught. I cannot give you any scientific studies about this - only my own experience and thoughts. I will almost guarantee that a common thread in this type of crime is depression and a feeling that a significant other does not love them. Drinking or drugs may be a factor, but not necessarily so. Then you will probably have sexual addiction of some sort (i.e. someone who feels sex is the only way to show love). These are just a few of the more obvious signs or factors that might be a precursor to someone committing this type of offense. It could be anger and a desire to make his significant other pay for not being there. Again, I say that just because you can understand these factors does not mean that a person who offends sexually should be absolved of what he has done. Only that understanding brings us all closer to stopping it.
